Uploading Your Website Using a Temporary FTP Address (Virtual IP)
Yes - Fast2host can provide a temporary FTP hostname or virtual IP address so you can upload your website before your domain name is pointed to our servers. This method helps keep downtime to a minimum and is highly recommended when transferring your domain to Fast2host.
You can upload your website immediately after activating your hosting account without waiting for DNS propagation.
How Temporary FTP Access Works
When your hosting is activated, we provide FTP login details including:
- Temporary FTP hostname or server IP
- FTP username
- FTP password
- Home directory path
You can use these details to upload files directly to your account before your domain is live on our platform.
Using Temporary FTP in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel.
- Go to FTP Accounts.
- Locate your main FTP account or create a new one if needed.
- Use the Server IP (shown on your cPanel dashboard) as your FTP host when your domain has not yet propagated.
This allows you to upload content to your public_html folder before DNS changes take effect.
Using Temporary FTP in Plesk
- Log in to Plesk.
- Select your domain.
- Click FTP Access.
- Use the IPv4 Address shown on your hosting dashboard as the FTP hostname.
You may also upload through the Plesk File Manager if you prefer a browser-based method.
Where to Find Your FTP Details
All required FTP information is included in your Welcome to Fast2host email. This email contains:
- Temporary FTP host or IP
- FTP username and password
- Control panel login URL
- File upload instructions
If you cannot find the email or need a new temporary FTP hostname - just ask.
Why Use a Temporary FTP Host?
- No downtime during migration
- Upload site before DNS changes
- Test your files early
- Smooth transition for customers and search engines
Once your DNS has propagated (usually 12-72 hours), your domain will begin serving files from your newly uploaded site.
