How to Restore Files, Databases, or Accounts Using Acronis Backup (cPanel)

The Acronis Backup plugin for cPanel allows users to restore individual files, databases, email accounts, or entire hosting accounts directly from the cPanel interface. Restores are fast, reliable, and do not require technical knowledge.

This guide explains how to perform restores using the Acronis interface inside cPanel.

Step 1: Access Acronis Backup in cPanel

Log in to your cPanel account and locate the Acronis Backup icon:

  • Go to cPanel
  • Scroll to the Files section
  • Click Acronis Backup

You will now see all available restore points for your hosting account.

Step 2: Choose What You Want to Restore

Acronis allows you to restore:

  • Individual files or folders
  • MySQL databases
  • Email accounts or mailboxes
  • Entire cPanel accounts

Select the backup date you want to restore from, then choose the restore type.

Step 3: Restoring Files or Folders

To restore files:

  1. Select Files from the left menu
  2. Browse to the file or folder you want to restore
  3. Tick the checkbox next to the item
  4. Click Recover

You can choose to:

  • Restore to the original location
  • Download the file instead

Step 4: Restoring a MySQL Database

To restore a database:

  1. Select Databases from the left menu
  2. Choose the database you want to restore
  3. Select the backup date
  4. Click Recover

Acronis will automatically restore the database in place. No manual import or phpMyAdmin access is required.

Step 5: Restoring Email Accounts or Mailboxes

To restore email data:

  1. Select Email from the left menu
  2. Choose the mailbox or account
  3. Select the backup date
  4. Click Recover

Acronis restores messages directly into the mailbox without affecting other accounts.

Step 6: Restoring an Entire cPanel Account

To restore the entire hosting account:

  1. Select Accounts from the left menu
  2. Choose the restore point
  3. Click Recover

This will restore all files, databases, emails, DNS settings, and configurations.

Optional: Restoring via Command Line (Advanced Users)

Advanced users or administrators can trigger restores via CLI. Below is an example command to restore a file:

/usr/local/acronis/scripts/acronis-backup-srv.sh restore --path /home/user/public_html

This section is optional and not required for standard cPanel restores.
