Configuring a Custom Temporary Path for Acronis Backup (cPanel)
The Acronis cPanel plugin stores its temporary working files on the root partition by default. During large account restores or full‑server recovery operations, this partition can fill up quickly, leading to failed restores or degraded system performance.
To avoid these issues, you can safely relocate the Acronis temporary directory to a larger partition such as
/home. The steps below guide you through updating the configuration.
Step 1: Edit the Acronis Configuration File
Connect to your server via SSH and open the Acronis configuration file:
/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/acronisbackup/srv/config.ini
Step 2: Update the tmp_path Setting
Locate the existing temporary path:
tmp_path = /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/acronisbackup/srv/tmp
Replace it with a directory located on a larger partition, for example:
tmp_path = /home/acronis_tmp
Step 3: Create the New Temporary Directory
After saving the configuration file, create the directory and set permissions:
mkdir -p /home/acronis_tmp
chmod 711 /home/acronis_tmp
Step 4: Restart the Acronis Service
Restart the Acronis backup service to apply the updated configuration:
/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/acronisbackup/scripts/acronis-backup-srv.sh restart
