What Is Hot Aisle Containment?

What Is Hot Aisle Containment and N+N Stulz Cooling?

Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) is a data centre cooling strategy that isolates the hot exhaust air from servers, preventing it from mixing with cold intake air. This separation improves cooling efficiency, reduces energy consumption, and protects hardware from thermal stress.

In our Tier 3 data centre, server racks are arranged in alternating hot and cold aisles. The hot aisle is enclosed with ceiling panels and doors, directing hot air back to the cooling system without contaminating the cold aisle.

Advantages of Hot Aisle Containment

  • Up to 30% energy savings by eliminating hot/cold air mixing
  • Improved airflow targeting for consistent server intake temperatures
  • Higher rack density without overheating risks
  • Extended hardware lifespan due to stable thermal conditions
  • Better PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) for greener operations

What Is N+N Stulz Cooling?

Our facility uses a fully redundant N+N Stulz Cooling System, meaning there are two completely independent cooling paths — each capable of handling 100% of the load. If one system fails or is under maintenance, the other takes over instantly with no disruption.

Benefits of N+N Stulz Cooling:

  • Maximum uptime – no single point of failure in cooling infrastructure
  • Concurrent maintainability – systems can be serviced without downtime
  • Precision climate control – ideal for high-density and mission-critical workloads
  • Scalable and modular – supports future growth without redesign
  • Energy-efficient operation – optimised for low PUE and sustainability
