How to Delete Folders on a Remote Server Using FileZilla
FileZilla makes it easy to delete folders (directories) from a remote server once you are connected via FTP or SFTP. This is useful when cleaning up old files or removing unused directories.
Warning: Deleting a folder will permanently remove it and all files inside it. This action cannot be undone.
Before you begin
Ensure FileZilla is installed, running, and connected to your remote server.
Delete a folder on the remote server
- In FileZilla, locate the remote server pane on the right.
- Browse to the directory containing the folder you want to delete.
- Right-click the folder.
- Select Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
The folder and all its contents will be removed from the server.
Common reasons to delete folders
- Removing old website backups
- Deleting unused upload directories
- Cleaning up test or staging folders
Tip: If FileZilla reports a permission error, make sure your FTP user has sufficient privileges to delete the folder.
