How to Update Your WordPress Installation (cPanel & WordPress Toolkit)
Keeping WordPress up to date is essential for performance, security, stability, and compatibility with modern plugins and themes. Fast2host provides a simple way to manage WordPress updates using the cPanel WordPress Toolkit, making the process safer and easier than updating manually inside wp-admin.
1. Open WordPress Toolkit in cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Scroll down to the Applications or WordPress section.
- Click WordPress Toolkit.
WordPress Toolkit will display all WordPress installations on your hosting account, including status, security recommendations, plugin versions, and theme information.
2. Check Whether WordPress Is Up to Date
Each installation clearly shows the current WordPress version and whether an update is available. If an update is required, you’ll see a notification or update banner next to the site.
- Green tick = You’re fully up to date
- Orange update icon = New WordPress version available
- Red warning = Critical update required
3. Update WordPress Using WordPress Toolkit
To update the WordPress core:
- Locate the WordPress installation you want to update.
- Click the Update button.
- WordPress Toolkit will:
- Automatically create a restore point / backup (optional but recommended)
- Install the latest WordPress version
- Verify that the update completed successfully
This method is safer than updating inside the WordPress admin panel, as the Toolkit can detect common issues and roll back if needed.
4. Updating Plugins, Themes & Translations
You can update everything from the same screen inside WordPress Toolkit:
- Plugins – update individually or all at once
- Themes – keep your design secure & compatible
- Translations – update language packs automatically
To update everything in one click:
- Select your WordPress installation.
- Click Updates.
- Choose Update All.
Optional: enable Smart Update (if available) to test updates safely using a clone before applying them to your live website.
5. Updating WordPress Manually From wp-admin
You can still update WordPress from inside the WordPress Dashboard if preferred:
- Log in to wp-admin.
- Go to Dashboard → Updates.
- Click Check Again to see the latest version.
- Click Update Now.
Note: We strongly recommend using WordPress Toolkit instead for safer updates.
6. After the Update
Once updates are complete, verify:
- Your website loads correctly
- Your plugins & theme still work as expected
- There are no dashboard warnings
You may also see a welcome or "What's New" screen explaining the new WordPress features.
