How Can I Minimise Downtime When Transferring a Domain to Fast2Host?

Following the steps below will help you minimise or completely avoid downtime when moving your website and domain to Fast2Host. In most cases, if each step is completed in order, your visitors will experience no interruption at all.

  1. Activate your hosting account. Once your account is activated, you’ll receive a welcome email with details on setting up your hosting and FTP access. Log in to your FTP account and upload your website files using the host address provided.
  2. Confirm your default page. After uploading, ensure that your website’s default home page (e.g. index.html or index.php) is configured correctly. Delete any placeholder or default files that came with your new account.
  3. Preview your website using a temporary URL. Before updating your domain’s DNS, test your website to make sure it displays correctly. You can create a temporary URL (domain alias) such as mysite.fast2host.com from within your control panel. In WebsitePanel, this feature is known as an Instant Alias.   4. Set up your email accounts. Configure all required mailboxes in advance so that incoming mail is ready to be received as soon as your domain is pointed to Fast2Host.
  5. Update your domain’s nameservers. Contact your current registrar (or use their web interface) to change your domain’s nameservers to Fast2Host’s nameservers. Once updated, allow 12–48 hours for DNS propagation across the Internet.
  6. Wait for DNS propagation to complete. When propagation finishes, your domain will begin resolving to your new Fast2Host account. You can verify this by visiting your website or using a DNS checker tool.
  7. Cancel your previous hosting account. After your domain fully resolves to Fast2Host and your website and email are functioning correctly, you may safely cancel your old hosting account. We recommend waiting at least 24 hours after successful DNS propagation before closing the previous account to ensure no data is lost.
