Set Up iPhone with Exchange ActiveSync
To configure your iPhone to access Exchange ActiveSync, follow these steps. This setup allows you to sync email, contacts, calendars, and tasks directly with your server.
Step 1: Open Settings
On your iPhone's home screen, tap Settings.
Step 2: Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Step 3: Add Mail Account
Tap Add Mail Account.
Step 4: Select Microsoft Exchange
Tap Microsoft Exchange.
Note: Only one Exchange ActiveSync account can be set up at once.
Step 5: Enter Account Details
Complete the following required fields:
- Email (your full email address)
- Domain name
- Username (full email address)
- Password (password for the above email address)
- Description
Step 6: Tap Next
Tap Next to continue.
Step 7: Enter Server Information
After a moment, the iPhone will ask for the server information.
Enter the URL to your webmail (e.g.
mail.example.com).
Note: Do not include http:// when entering the server information.
Step 8: Tap Next
Tap Next to proceed.
Step 9: SSL Settings
If your webmail does not support SSL, you may see the message:
"Exchange account verification failed."
Tap Next and then Save.
After step 10, edit the account you just added:
- Tap Account Info
- Change Use SSL to Off
Step 10: Choose Items to Sync
The iPhone will display a list of collaboration items to sync with Exchange ActiveSync.
Choose from the list (e.g. Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders) and tap Done to initiate the first sync.
✔ Tip: Ensure your server supports SSL/TLS for secure connections.
If you disable SSL, your credentials may be transmitted without encryption.
