How to Sync SmarterMail Contacts with an iPhone
Modern versions of SmarterMail support CardDAV, which allows you to synchronise your contacts directly with your iPhone without needing any third‑party apps. This replaces older methods such as Funambol, which are no longer supported on iOS.

Recommended Method: Sync via CardDAV (iPhone)
Follow these steps on your iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Contacts.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Add Account.
- Select Other.
- Under Contacts, tap Add CardDAV Account.
Enter your SmarterMail details:
- Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- User Name: your full email address
- Password: your email password
- Description: anything you like (e.g., “Work Contacts”)
Tap Next and your iPhone will verify the connection. Once complete, your SmarterMail contacts will begin syncing automatically.
Legacy Method (Not Recommended): Funambol App
Older versions of SmarterMail used to support syncing via the Funambol app. This method is now deprecated and may no longer work on modern iPhones.
If you still use an older SmarterMail installation that requires Funambol, please be aware that it is unsupported and may fail to sync.
Important Notes
- Your server must support CardDAV (SmarterMail 12+).
- Use your full email address as the username.
