How Users Can Access Webmail Without cPanel
You do not need to give your users full cPanel access just to check their email. All email accounts can access webmail directly through their own login page. This keeps your hosting account secure and ensures each user only sees their own email.
Access Webmail Using Your Domain Name
If your domain name has fully propagated, your users can access webmail using:
http://www.yourdomain.com/webmail
Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.
At the login prompt, users should enter:
- Username: Full email address (e.g.,
myemail@yourdomain.com) - Password: The password assigned to that email account
Access Webmail Using the Server Name
If the domain is new, not pointing to the server yet, or DNS has not propagated, users can still log in via the server hostname:
http://server.fast2host.com/webmail
Replace server with your actual server name (e.g., cp123.fast2host.com).
Available Webmail Applications
Most cPanel servers offer multiple webmail interfaces, such as:
- Horde – Full-featured email, calendar, tasks, notes
- Roundcube – Modern, user-friendly interface
- SquirrelMail (legacy) – Lightweight and minimal
You can allow users to choose their preferred webmail client or restrict access to only one.
Restrict Users to a Specific Webmail Application
If you want users to automatically load a specific webmail client, you can create a redirect using a subdomain in cPanel.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Log in to cPanel.
- Go to Subdomains.
- In the subdomain field, enter your preferred name such as webmail (this creates
webmail.yourdomain.com). - Click Create and wait for the confirmation message.
- Click Go Back (do not use the browser back button).
- Find the newly created subdomain in the list and click Manage Redirection.
- Enter the URL of the webmail client you want users to access. Examples:
- Horde:
http://www.yourdomain.com:2095/horde/index.php/ - Roundcube:
http://www.yourdomain.com:2095/roundcube/ - SquirrelMail (legacy):
Note: SquirrelMail does not require a trailing slash.http://www.yourdomain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php
- Click Save.
- Visit http://webmail.yourdomain.com to verify the redirect.
Your users can now log in with their email address and password and will be automatically directed to the chosen webmail application.
Useful Tips for Administrators
- You do not need to give users cPanel access to manage email.
- You can reset email passwords from the cPanel Email Accounts section.
- If users cannot log in, check:
- Incorrect password
- IP blocked by firewall
- DNS propagation status
- Mailbox quota exceeded
- Secure access by enabling SSL:
https://www.yourdomain.com:2096
Webmail Login Ports
- Port 2095: Webmail (non-SSL)
- Port 2096: Webmail (SSL encrypted)
For maximum security, always use HTTPS or port 2096.
